Let yourself go wild in Erris this year
Erris Peninsula, North County Mayo – The enchanting and legendary landscape of the Erris peninsula will host one of Ireland’s most challenging triathlons on September 14th. Over 250 national and international athletes are set to compete in the Blacksod Point Challenge Triathlon, sanctioned as a National Series race for 2024 by Triathlon Ireland following a tremendously successful 2023 event. This epic triathlon, situated at the most westerly tip of Europe, offers participants the chance to traverse some of Ireland’s most breathtaking scenery. The race route features rolling sand dunes, magnificent Atlantic views, and dramatic sea cliffs.
The Wild Atlantic Way is the world’s largest touring route (2,500km), stretching from Donegal to Cork and with over 150 WAW Discovery Points on the route, you can discover 12 of them in Belmullet and Erris.
Downpatrick Head, the WAW Signature Point, is located in Ballycastle, which is at the north edge of the barony of Erris. The Discovery Point at Céide is also in the Ballycastle region.
Inis Bigil (Inishbiggle Island), another Discovery Point, can be reached from Ballycroy in Erris.
