Blacksod Point Challenge Triathlon: Now a National Series Race for 2024
Erris Peninsula, North County Mayo – The enchanting and legendary landscape of the Erris peninsula will host one of Ireland’s most challenging triathlons on September 14th. Over 250 national and international athletes are set to compete in the Blacksod Point Challenge Triathlon, sanctioned as a National Series race for 2024 by Triathlon Ireland following a tremendously successful 2023 event.
This epic triathlon, situated at the most westerly tip of Europe, offers participants the chance to traverse some of Ireland’s most breathtaking scenery. The race route features rolling sand dunes, magnificent Atlantic views, and dramatic sea cliffs.
The Blacksod Point Triathlon consists of:
A 1500m endurance swim in Blacksod Bay
A 43km cycle to Belmullet town, passing the highest point on the Erris peninsula
An exhilarating 10km run across the scenic Falmore
Organised as part of a Marine Festival by the Erris Chamber of Commerce & Belmullet Festival Committee, this event has been hailed by past winners as one of Ireland’s most demanding and rewarding sporting challenges.
“The excitement for this year’s race is continually growing, with many seasoned competitors returning for another test of endurance in Erris. The Blacksod Point Challenge Triathlon stands as one of the premier multi-sport events in North Mayo,” said a representative from the committee.
