Tír Sáile – the North Mayo Sculpture Trail – is the largest public arts project ever undertaken in Ireland. It comprises of 14 site-specific sculptures along the North Mayo Coast, six of which are located in the Erris region. The sculptures were put in place during 1993, the year of the Mayo 5000. The trail was part of a year-long cultural celebration, inspired by the surviving human imprint in earth and stone at the Céide Fields. The project involved the collaboration of the local community, private parties and public organisations. The artists, who came from all over the world, were hosted by local families. The Tír Sáile Sculpture Trail has heightened the beauty and the wealth of cultural heritage of the North Mayo coastal region. The sites marked J to O can be found on the Erris Beo map. A special handbook on the trail can be obtained at local tourist offices.
